In a persons life, there could be a lot of things that could happen that would hamper a mans life and change it forever. When these things happen, a persons ability to work can be taken away from them. A lost of limb can degrade the quality of life and it does not only limit itself to physical alteration or change, as these accidents can also affect the mental aspects of a person as well.

This type of lost can is often called as being disabled. Most countries will have a definite interpretation on what having a disability can mean and it all depends on that country to identify it. The two kinds usually involve the psychical and mental aspect of that person may hold. Its roots had began during the early 18th up until the 19th century in terms of advancements. The innovation of having medical discourse has helped it progressed tremendously. In it, it has stated that a human beings body is manipulated and be studied upon in order to begin classification. This purpose was so that an illness is identified and treatments or how they are treated is researched.

The early modern age showed a shift towards biological causes for these mental and physical differences, instead of the supernatural reasons given before. The interest for categorizing such ailments rose and many different demarcating categories were created. The sixteenth century had such and these were prodigies and the maimed.

Europeans age of enlightenment had made an emphases on basing the knowledge on reason and how valuable natural science is to the progress of human beings. These in turn spawned the rise of institutions and facilities that observed the symptoms and categorized them. Among the facilities erected were asylums, clinics, and prisons as well.

A new method was introduced during this specific time period. The concept of being in a norm was introduced. The ideas was formed that within the general populace, the numbers is added up and calculated into an average that is eventually referred to as a norm. These ideas had summed up and turned into the base of what became as Eugenics. All of these turned into the terms abnormal, normal, and the normal came from.

Thanks to all these ideas that were put together during the last hundred of years, people now have hope. The hope to heal from the difficult life that being disabled have given them. This had become a chance to fully recover from all pain that people had gone through with out it and its care.
